v2.99.9
- 2.99.9-2 - fixes hidden icons crash.
- 2.99.9-1 - fixes broken 'i' button in folders.
- Rewrite of GUI to be more iphone-like in flow
- Fixed some low memory cases on hide icons on 3g devices.
v2.99.8
- Adds webclip support to the GUI but not the launcher. (If you have categories SB installed, webclips work now. If not, you have to wait for me to update my launcher). Fixed issue with iBlanks app causing a lot of blank space enumerating apps.
- Updated for 4.0 compatibility only. (Note: some features like backgrounds may not work). Will work on categories after rest of my apps are 4.0 stable after main jailbreak is released.
v2.99.6
- NEW: works with libhide's no respring hiding now.
- (compiled on newest xcode, therefore all new features going forward are for 3.x firmwares. 2.x users are locked with v2.99.4).
v2.99.4
- NEW: Reworked the icon select screen so that it wont crash due to low memory anymore. Now icons are grouped into folders. You select a folder and only view the icons from the selected set. Rather than viewing 500 icons, you only see the few at a time in the series you select.
- NEW: Restored the automatic pick-an-icon selection when adding new category folders.
- FIX: Fixed bug where the 'i' button in folders did not load categories to edit the folder.
v2.99
- NEW: Revamped GUI to fit new features such as integrated "Hidden Icons" better.
- NEW: Added more extensive help.
- NEW: Added ability to hide icons (Poof) from within categories.
- NEW: Added more rigorous methods to detect when older category folders were not properly converted (pre v2.27) and convert them.
- NEW: Added logic to remove folders that previously showed up as NULL and couldnt be removed.
v2.29
- FIX: Fixed issue where icons wouldnt delete from springboard when no icons were ever hidden before.
- Added check for libhide.
- Added a small icon for spotlight
v2.28
- Categories now support non-English character names; this includes
punctuation
- All category creation/deletion/updating is handled by new CategoryTool
- Categories no longer runs as root
- As part of the non-English support, newly created categories use a
generic /Applications/Category### directory name. To help themers,
Categories.app now lists the path below the name of each category.
- CategoryTool is designed to be used by end-users as well, if they want
to use it. It includes a built-in help that describes the options.
v2.27.2
- Fixed issue on update that caused some users to see no folders after update from 2.26. (Sorry, while this should solve the issue, it wont undo what was done for you that already experienced it meaning you have to set folders up again if this happened to you).
v2.27.1
- Fixed issue where editing name or icon only edited first folder in the list.
- Reworked the package, itself, so that it won't install with categoriessb version less than 1.1. This caused some updates to lose contents of the folders because they updated categories but not categoriessb.
v2.27
- Complete internal rewrite with help from ashikase.
- Reworked how apps are added to be based off bundle ID rather than folder names. Should solve issues like taptap2 and taptap3 not being able to be in a folder together.
- Improved U/I (adding transitions and such).
v2.26
- Moved to use libhide to hide icons like sbsettings, bossprefs, and all my other apps that hide icons. Note, you can uninstall spotbright if you want. Libhide handles fixing spotlight for you and your spotlight may be faster without spotbright.
v2.25
- Increased folder limit from 31 to 127. I had a lot of people asking about the 31 folder limit recently for some reason.
- Fixed the broken help link.
v2.24
- Removed analytics engine which was causing app crash occasionally but consistently for a few people. Thanks to Jollywombat for all your help on tracking this down!
v2.23-1
- Added some debugging info for some crashing some folks are seeing
- Added some permission changes to some folders to "guess" what some crashing may be as a long shot
v2.23
- Fixed issue where users behind a proxy had the app close and safari open in some cases.
- Worked on memory usage. Fixed a large memory leak. (There is still a memory leak in the configuration part of the app, but it's not as big. I hope I get time to fix it in the near future).
- The iPhone 2.1 and newer froze up when trying to respring with less than 7MB RAM. When memory got low, springboard would kill the app causing it to respring and freeze up. The respring flag should now be cleared in most cases when memory gets this low.
- The app will now detect if it gets closed due to low memory and allow you to continue your editing where you left off.
- Memory free and respring state are now in the status bar while the app is running
v2.22
- Note: I just noticed that an older version of the launcher is out than I thought. I must have updated this and not packed it. This is just updating the launcher for the changes for v2.21 that did not exist until now. You should be able to background the folders now without the backgrounder app.
v2.21
- Launcher: Removed dependency on backgrounder. If you want the fast folders you need backgrounder. If you don't care or you are having problems with backgrounder, you can uninstall backgrounder now without uninstalling categories.
v2.20
- Launcher: Folders instant loading! Integrated with backgrounder for folders. There is now an option in the settings to "keep resident". When set, the folder only loads once per respring. After that, it stays running in the background (uses no CPU but uses some RAM) to provide instant loading (no load times). Note that this does use more memory so use it sparingly. I suggest that it is ok for 1 - 4 folders but I would not background 20 folders. If you do and have problems, just go back to settings and disable this option on some of the folders you don't use as often.
v2.18
- Settings App: Fixed issue where app kept crashing on load for a few poeple (most these people had adblockers in their /etc/hosts).
v2.17
- Settings App: Replaced Default.png.
- Settings App: Added some new icons by Andreas Fichter.
- Settings App: Added admob into settings app GUI (note, no plans to have any ads in launcher).
v2.16
- Launcher: Removed dependency on springbridge and am launching apps the old way thanks to Saurik who figured out that it just needed to be signed with the correct entitlements.
- Settings App: Did not rev, still at 2.15.
v2.15
- SpringBridge 1.2: Moved to using "roles" rather than "names" to launch cameras and photos. I hope this resolves some issues launching these apps from folders for foreign language users.
- Settings App: Fixed issue where you could not edit a folder with missing items. The app crashed instead. Now it will remove the missing items.
v2.14-1
- Nothing changed in categories. Repacked to depend on SpringBridge 1.1.
- SpringBridge 1.1: Fixed issue where camera and photos cannot be launched if in folders.
v2.14
- Settings App: Changed the way apps are added to not delete the "cache" file so that there is less chance of spinning wheel caused by SpringBoard's sucky mapping functions.
- Launcher: Terminating app when launching categories so that you see default image loading.
v2.13
- Settings App: Fixed issue where added folders dont show up.
v2.12
- Launcher: Fixed 2.1 FW where could not launch applications.
- Settings App: Redid method of hide used for SMS so that sms:// protocol works on text when it's in categories folder.
v2.11 (Note: settings app to 2.11, launcher still 2.10)
- Settings app: Fixed bug reported on 2.10 where you could no longer add new apps because it was stuck in editing mode.
- Settings app: Fixed cosmetic issue where when editing icon, it would say "Pick (null) icon" rather than give the title of the folder.
v2.10
- Settings app: Added ability to rename a folder once created. Just select edit and tap the row to rename.
- Settings app: Added ability to change icon once selected.
- Settings app: Cleaned up the add icon GUI
- Settings app: Made help and changelog built in so they no longer close out Categories and load Safari.
- Settings app: Fixed issue where if maps app is hidden it couldnt be launched from apps. This had to move off of restrictions and into the old Info.plist method.
- Settings app: Added ability for icons to also be scanned in /var/mobile/Media/Categories/Icons so now users can create icon addon packs. (Note a max of 4096 icons is supported).
- Launcher: Now supports one winterboard theme. (Winterboard supports themes in layers, I cannot do that here). You can select one theme with icons. If you uninstall the theme, you will need to change it manually as there will be no icons for the themed apps at that time. (Trying to change this would result in longer load times so it's not worth it).
- Launcher: Added option for left/right scrolling and made it default.
- Launcher: Added ability to change font color.
- Launcher: Added ability to select icon row count (1 - 4)
- Launcher: Added ability to use background.png. You can copy your own background in! This is currently black which is in place of the "use black background" option. But now you can replace this with your own image if you want to have your own background. Use a 320x480 png.
v2.04b
- Fixed bug introduced in 2.03 where apps added after a folder is made will disappear from springboard but not show up in the folder unless you delete something out of the folder. Note, if you have this issue, after updating just delete an app from a folder and add it again and it should show up.
- Added a whole bunch more icons from Scott Weichert.
- Added a progress spinner when icons load (still needs to be cleaned up but it works).
- Added a button when selecting icons that lets you get back to the main screen without selecting an icon.
v2.03b
- Changed background loading from a "fake" set of icons to a folder provided by Allen over at planet-iphones.com. The other method, while cool, was causing issues because the app looked loaded but it was not. This made it appear that the buttons needed to be pressed many times before they worked.
- Removed the "save screen" option. This is related to the change above. This also speeds up the launching app process.
- Added a caching system to help cut down folder load times when nothing has changed in folders. The first time a chance occurs, the cache is updated but subsequent loads should be faster. Load times seem to be reduced by about 33% due to it. The more icons in the folder, the longer it takes to load.
- Added many icons provided by Ranova and Scott Weichert.
- Fixed bug with funky navigation bar buttons in the main configuration app.
v2.02b
- Fixed names for core apps like "Notes" that was displaying as "MobileNotes" etc.
- Fixed crash (thanks Matt) where if app is in a folder and then uninstalled, the launcher would crash.
- Launcher now automatically removes uninstalled apps.
- Fixed bug with extended character set folder names. They are now no longer allowed. If you already made one of these and cannot delete it, you must do it in SSH (sorry). Delete the folder out of /Applications then delete the line of text from /var/mobile/Library/Categories/list.txt
- Implemented an updater app to update installed category folders on app update.
v2.00b
- Ported to iPhone OS 2.0.
