To kill an application, just place your finger on any running apps icon, and swipe upwards. The confirmation alert is optional, turning off will kill an app automatically on a swipe.
This applies to every application on your home screen, as well as in the app switcher bar. In the app switcher bar you can kill apps as fast as you can swipe, way faster than traditional methods.
